Sacred Jackfruit tree site, Kaina

 
bullet It is believed that during the reign of Bhagyachandra Maharaj (1763-98 A.D.) the sacred idol of Shree Shree Govindaji was sculptured from the parts of a jackfruit tree cut from Kaina in complying to a dream in which the King saw the image of the Lord in certain manifestation.
bullet The idol of the Lord, being sacred from the ardent vaishnavites, Kaina therefore assumed importance as the place where the image of the Lord originated and consequently became an important religious and historical place for Meitei Hindus.
bullet The site is now a holy place for devout pilgrims.
bullet Rasleelas are performed here in the name of the Lord, and dedicated to Bhagychandra Maharaj.
bullet The total area covered under the Act is 22 x 18.40 sq.m
bullet Kaina is located in Thoubal district and is around 35 Kms to the east of Imphal on the Imphal-Yairipok road.
bullet A trip to Kaina covers a picturesque journey across  the Ngariyan hill which is noted for pineapple cultivation.
