Diagnostic and Treatment Facilities

A. State Hospital :

            J.N. Hospital which is the State Hospital is being developed into a super-speciality hospital. It is a 2000 bedded hospital.

The hospital provides services in the 11 clinical disciplines of :

  1. General Medicine
  2. Psychiatry
  3. Paediatrics
  4. Dermatology
  5. General Surgery
  6. Orthopaedic Surgery
  7. Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  8. Ophthalmology
  9. Otolaryngology.
  10. Odontology
  11. Neurosurgery

The clinical disciplines are supported by the Para clinical specialities of :

i. Anaesthesiology
ii. Radiology
iii. Pathology
iv. Microbiology
v. Biochemistry
vi. Immuno-haematology

The hospital has got a fully licensed blood bank.

The major equipment available and giving Services are :

i. C.T.Scanner
ii. 500 MA X-Ray machine with image intensifire
iii. Ultrasound machine
iv. Endoscopes for for G.I.tract as well as for respiratory tract
v. Haemodialyser
vi. Audiometer
vii. Operating Microscopes
viii. E.C.G.machine
xi. Anesthesia machine
x Multiple Biochemical Auto Analyser

    The Department of Nephrology is being developed with installation of 2 Haemodialysis Machines.Doctors have been exposed to short courses on Urology, Oncology,Neurology, Arthroscopy, Special Surgery and Neurosurgery.

B. District Hospital, Churachandpur :

This is the biggest District Hospital having 100 beds.The Hospital provide services in the clinical disciplines of :

i General Medicine
ii. Psychiatry
iii. Paediatrics
iv General Surgery
v Orthopaedic Surgery
vi. Obstetrics & Gynaecology
vii. Ophthalmology
viii Odontology
ix. Dermatology
x. E.N.T

The Hospital is backed up by a full fledged blood bank laboratory manned by a Pathologist.

Among the major equipment installed in the Hospital

i. 300 MA X-Ray Machine
ii Ultrasound Machine may be mentioned.

A new OPD Block has been constructed and inaugurated during May,2002

C. Other District Hospital :

        The other District Hospitals have beds ranging from 25 to50 beds and have posting of specialists from time to time. But the posting in all the 4 core specialities of (i) General Medicine (ii)General Surgery (iii)Paediatrics and (iv) Obstetrics and Gynae cannot be ensured due to shortage.

        The hospitals are handicapped due to absence of blood bank,well organised and equipped O.T. and lack of Anesthesthetists. As such major operations are not performed regulary.Construction of Blood Banks is going on at District Hospital Ukhrul and Tamenglong.

            All the District Hospital have Ambulance facility.

D.Community Health Centre (CHC) :

            8 (eight) out of the 16 CHCs have been provided with X-Ray Machines. However the full complement of specialists of

  1.     General Medicine
  2.     Gynae
  3.     Paediatrics
  4.     Surgery

cannot be provided to the CHCs due to shortage of manpower. most of the OTs of the CHCs are not functioning regularly due to non-posting of Surgeons and Anesthetists.

E.Primary health Centre (PHC) :

        Almost all the PHC are posted with medical officers. Some have 2 to 3 medical officers.The PHC have laboratory facility backup by microscopes,Lab, Technician and Microscopists.

4.   BUILDING:

1.Primary Health Care Buildings :

(i) PHSC:

        Out of the 420 PHSCs in the State 40 are functioning in PHC permises from which the PHC had been upgraded; that is to say 40 PHSCs are working as both PHSC and PHC.However the 40 PHScs has been listed among the PHSCs having its own building.

        It may not be necessary to construct separate premises for such PHSCs if the PHCs in which they are attached are properly consructed.

      As of today, out of 420 PHSCs in the State 190 PHSCs do not have Government building.

        During the 9th Plan,Construction of 35 PHSCs was approved under various schemes as indicated in the table below :

                As of today,out of 72 PHSCs in the State 38 PHCs do not have proper Government building and are functioning in the PHSC buildings from which they were upgraded.

                During the 9th Plan,construction of 25 PHCs were sanctioned under various scheme as indicated in the table below :

(iii) CHC :

            Out of the 16 CHCs in the State, 9 CHCs do not have full building component. During the 9th Plan construction of CHCs was approved.Further 2 CHCs taken up during the 8th Plan one is yet to be complited.Due to fund constraint construction of CHCs are taken up in phases. The CHCs having full building component are (1) Mao (2)Kangpokpi (3) Kamjong (4) Sagolmang (5) Jiribam (6) Kakching and (7) Moirang. The building status of CHCs without full building component are shown in the table below :

  (iv) UHC :

                UHC Moreh has been redesignated as Urban Health Centre and Singjamei Dispensary is being developed as Urban health Centre.

Construction of two Urban health centres have been taken up during the 9th Plan. The progress of the works are detailed below :
