Curriculum and Syllabus for Classes XI & XII |
The Examination to be conducted at the end of Class XI shall be called" Class XI Promotion Examination”..
The Examination to be Conducted at the end of Class XII shall be called the "Higher Secondary Examination".
The Class XI Promotion Examination shall be conducted simultaneously in all recognised Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges with questions supplied by the Council and passing the said examination shall be a condition of eligibility for appearing in the Higher Secondary Examination of the Council.
The Council shall charge a fee, to be fixed from time to time, for preparation and distribution of question papers etc. The remaining items, such as, conduct of the examination, evaluation of the scripts, etc. shall be the responsibility of the institutions.
The institutions shall announce the results as per
relevant "Pass Criteria and Classification of Successful Candidates” as given in
para 3.6 within a specified period fixed by the Council and with prior approval
of the Council for which the institution shall submit tabulation sheets in
duplicate in the format prescribed by the Council along with the recommended
result sheets of which one shall be retained by the Council and the other shall
be returned to the institution concerned.
The Council may make random checking of evaluated scripts wherever necessary.
In all subjects examined in the Class XI Promotion Examination there shall be only one paper each carrying 100 marks for 3 hours. However, in the subjects involving practical, there shall be a theory paper and a practical paper as mentioned in the Courses of studies.
The Council shall conduct Higher Secondary Examination based on the Syllabus for Class XII according to the following scheme:
The Council shall conduct examinations in all subjects, except General Studies/General Foundation Course which shall be assessed internally by the institution concerned. The assessment records are subject to scrutiny of the Council as and when it deems necessary.
In all subjects examined by the Council there shall be only one paper each carrying 100 marks for 3 hours. However, in subjects involving practical there shall be a theory paper and a practical paper as mentioned in the Courses of Studies.
If a candidate after completion of a regular course of study cannot appear at pass in the examination, he or she shall be re-admitted in a recognised institution for appearing in the succeeding examination as a regular/casual candidate. However, in subjects not involving practical, the candidate may appear as a "Private Candidate" without attending classes.
A candidate may be allowed to appear in the Higher Secondary Examination as a "Private Candidate" in the subjects not involving practical, on completion of 2 academic years from the date of his/her passing the High School Leaving Certificate Examination or its equivalent.
Regarding the courses of study (syllabi) for appearing in
the Higher Secondary Examination, the regular / private candidates shall follow
the syllabi meant for the Higher Secondary Examination for that year w.e.f. the
Higher Secondary Examination, 1999.
The Council shall update curriculum and syllabus to suit the changing
conditions from time to time. Such change/changes shall be intimated to all the
recognised institutions well in advance.
4. MINIMUM ATTENDANCE FOR REGULAR CANDIDATES :
A regular candidate should attend at least 75% of the classes
(in theory as well as in practical, if there be any practical part) in each
subject in Class XI for appearing in the Class XI Promotion Examination and also
in Class XII for appearing in the Higher Secondary Examination of the Council.
Provided that this may be relaxed in the case of a Modern Indian Language
which is not opened in the institution.
However, this prescribed attendance may be condoned up to 60% in special cases
by the Council on the recommendation of the institution and on payment of a
condo nation fee payable to the Council. The actual attendance of the candidate
should be certified by the head of the institution concerned.
Change of subject/group/stream may be allowed in class XI only within 3 (three) months after the close of admission with prior permission of the Council on Payment of permission fee.
NO students shall be permitted to offer a subject in Class XII if he/ she has not passed the Class XI promotion Examination with that subject.
However, in case a student fails in the 4th subject in Class XI, the student may be allowed to offer the subject in class XII provided that the student passed in the improvement examination conduct by the institution within 2 (two) months of the announcement of the result.
6. PASS CRITERIA AND CLASSIFICATION OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
Candidates securing
Marks for three subjects in which the candidate's performance is better shall be taken into account for determining pass, rank, division and star mark. The marks secured in the 4th subject shall not be taken into account for determining pass, rank and division. However, the marks secured in the subject shall be shown in the mark sheet.
Marks obtained in General Studies / General Foundation Course assessed internally by the institutions shall be indicated in the marks- sheet but shall not be taken into account for determining pass, division or rank.
A candidate failing in one of the five qualifying subjects of the Higher Secondary Examination shall be placed in Compartment in that subject provided he / she qualifies in all the four remaining subjects.
Such a candidate placed in compartment shall be allowed to appear only in that failed subject in the Higher Secondary Examination of the succeeding year. There shall be no separate Compartmental Examination under the Council.
For subjects involving practices, in case the candidate has passed in the practical part at the previous examination, he / she may appear only in the theory part and the previous practical marks shall be carried forward and accounted for. In case a candidate has failed in practical he/ she shall have to appear both in theory and practical irrespective of the fact that he / she already cleared the theory examination .
If such candidate appearing in one subject only as compartmental candidate in the subsequent examination, qualifies in that subject , he / she shall be declared “Pass” and neither division nor rank be given.
A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary Examination of the Council may reappear for improvement of his/her performance in all subjects in the main examination in the succeeding year as a Private or a Regular Candidate in the courses prescribed by the Council for the year in which he/she desires to appear in the examination. Such candidate has to surrender the mark-sheet and other certificates of the fast examination already issued to him/her before he/ she is given permission to sit for the examination. The request for permission for such cases in the prescribed form shall be submitted to the Council within two months from the date of declaration of the result. Once permission is issued, the results of the last examination shall be cancelled and the result of the subsequent examination shall be taken into account for division only and not for rank, position, etc.
Permission for improvement in all the subjects, or, one additional/arrear subject shall be issued within 3 (three) months from the date of declaration of the Higher Secondary Examination result. Migrated students of the Council who have surrendered their migration certificate are to re-register themselves within the period.
The Original Certificate of passing the Higher Secondary Examination may be issued within, 1 (one) year on demand in special cases and ordinarily after 2 (two) years from the date of announcement of the result.
