Heisnam Lairemma Inscription

 

bullet The protected inscribed stone monument better known as the Heisnam Lairemma Inscription is located in the compound of the 1st Bn. Manipur Rifles at Imphal.
bullet The inscribed stone is related to the worship of the Goddess Heisnam Lairembi (believed to be an incarnation of the Goddess Panthoibi).
bullet During the period of monarchy, the State formally allowed the worship of particular dieties as the family diety of a certain family or clan. The worship of the Heisnam Lairembi was one such case.
bullet This practice is attributed to Meidingngu Loiyumba (1074 - 1122 A.D.) who set the code of division of family dieties for worship, and the same was upheld in later period by Khagemba Maharaj, as in the case of the worship of Heisnam Lairembi.
bullet The texture of the inscribed stone is coarse sandstone type. The inscribed script is in archaic Meitei script, both in literary and common dialect forms. The text inscribed comments on the finer points of the temple where the Goddess Heisnam Lairembi was worshipped.
bullet It is mentions the name of Chinglen Nongtren Khomba, the royal name/title given to Maharaj Gambhir Singh, at the time of coronation, and the date of inauguration of the temple in 1828 A.D. The protected area is 24 x 4.2. sq.m.
