The protected inscribed
stone monument better known as the Heisnam Lairemma Inscription is
located in the compound of the 1st Bn. Manipur Rifles at Imphal. |
|
 |
The inscribed stone is
related to the worship of the Goddess Heisnam Lairembi (believed to be
an incarnation of the Goddess Panthoibi). |
|
 |
During the period of
monarchy, the State formally allowed the worship of particular dieties
as the family diety of a certain family or clan. The worship of the
Heisnam Lairembi was one such case. |
|
 |
This practice is
attributed to Meidingngu Loiyumba (1074 - 1122 A.D.) who set the code
of division of family dieties for worship, and the same was upheld in
later period by Khagemba Maharaj, as in the case of the worship of
Heisnam Lairembi. |
|
 |
The texture of the
inscribed stone is coarse sandstone type. The inscribed script is in
archaic Meitei script, both in literary and common dialect forms. The
text inscribed comments on the finer points of the temple where the
Goddess Heisnam Lairembi was worshipped. |
|
 |
It is mentions the name of
Chinglen Nongtren Khomba, the royal name/title given to Maharaj
Gambhir Singh, at the time of coronation, and the date of inauguration
of the temple in 1828 A.D. The protected area is 24 x 4.2. sq.m. |
