The inscribed stone
at Thiyam Leishangkhong (at Wangoi, located 15 Kms south of Imphal) is
located at the site of the old marketplace of Leishangkhong, and the
stone is attributed to Maharaj Marjit. |

The text of the
inscription gives the record of the inauguration of the marketplace at
Leishangkhong in 1741 Saka (1819 A.D.) under the name and style of
Mayang Ngamba Keithel, referring obviously to Maharaj Marjit who had the
honorary tile of 'Mayang Ngamba', the one who vanquished the Mayangs.
Maharaj Marjit is also referred as Nongpok Wairang Pamheiba. |

The texture of the
inscribed stone is of medium fine sandstone. The size of the inscribed
stone is 50 x 25 sq. cms. A peculiar character of the inscription is the
use of archaic Meitei script in six lines and Bengali script in two
lines. The text of the language is of common dialect form. The protected
area is 3 x 3 sq.m. |
