Hostel Rules

1.GENERAL INFORMATION :

i. At the University Campus there are two hostels which provide accommodation for 154 male students and 98 female students. A Ladies ' Hostel extension building having a capacity of 50 beds is also under construction  has been completed .

ii. Students desirous of residing in the University Hostels should apply on the prescribed form available from the University Office.

iii. In each Hostel there will be guest room/sick room which will be directly under the supervision of the concerned Warden.

iv. Last date for submission of the admission form will be fixed by the Hostel Advisory Committee.

2.OBJECTIVES :

 The objective of Hostel life in the University are as follows :-  

i. to ensure that students coming from different parts of the country/state learn to live together and  to strengthen their relation with mutual co-operation and good will.

ii. to ensure that students are able to devote adequate time to their studies and research.

iii. to develop a proper climate of curricular and extra curricular activities for the students

3.ELIGIBILITY OF ADMISSION TO HOSTELS :

i. Only students admitted to a full time course of study of University and not employed anywhere are eligible to apply for accommodation in the hostel of the University. Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to the University Hostel

ii. The following course will be treated as full time courses of study:-

(a)   Ph.D. (full time registered students)
(b)   M. Phil
(c)   M Sc./MCA/MBA
(d)   M A/M Com (regular students)
(e)   other courses not less than one year academic session.

4. ADMISSION TO THE HOSTELS :

a. RESERVATION :

i. Out of the total seats in the Hostel, 31% will be reserved for Scheduled Tribes & 2% will be reserved for Scheduled Castes (As per Govt. of Manipur Office Memorandum No. 9/1/73-S dt. 19.12.1974).

ii. Seats will be reserved for the for the following students specified as under :-
 

(i)

Ph.D. students

(10%)

(ii)

M.Phil. students

(3%)

(iii)

Physically disabled (Medical)

(2%)

(iv)

Meritorious students in sports & culture

(2%)

b. GENERAL

Admission in general category shall be purely on Merit  cum-Distance basis. Merit means percentage of marks of the last examination (60% and above for Science and  50% and above for Arts students).

              For distance there shall be two categories. Selection from two distance categories shall be merit basis. The P.C. of allotment of the seats will be as under :-

              (i)   For Ladies' Hostel 40% of seats shall be allotted to Category 'A' & 60%  to Category 'B'.
              (ii)   For Men's Hostel 30% of seats shall be allotted to Category 'A' & 70% to Category 'B'.

       Category 'A' shall  apply to those students who are staying in a 20 km. radium of Canchipur, Imphal.

       Category 'B' shall apply to those students who are staying outside the 20 km. radius of Canchipur.

NOTE 1  :     Proportionate allotment of seats will be made Department wise as far as practicable.

NOTE 2  :    The above mode of selection shall apply to the categories of the students except for Ph.D. students. Ph.D. students will be  admitted on first cum first serve basis.  

5. FUNCTION OF THE HOSTELS :

(i) The overall supervision and control of the boarders in the hostel shall be vested on the Hostel Advisory Committee.

(ii) The overall supervision and control of the boarders in the Hostel shall be vested to the Warden of the Hostel.

(iii) On the recommendation of the Warden concerned an Assistant Warden shall be elected for each Hostel from amongst the boarders for an academic year.

(iv) The Asstt. Warden shall be provided rent free accommodation. He/She shall assist the Warden concern in the smooth running of the Hostel.

(v) Each Hostel shall have a Hostel Committee comprising of the Asstt. Warden and six members elected  by the general body of the Hostel concerned. The assistant Warden and the members of the Hostel Committee will normally hold office for one year.
